Thanks for this Kimberly. It really made me re-think how I approach the notion of “purpose.” I’ve been thinking over the last year about how important a sense of purpose is for happiness, but you’re right that any purpose we decide upon is really just a construct. It makes us feel better, but it doesn’t really matter… which is kind of perverse. I particularly agree with the point about children — so many of us have children to fill the void, to create a purpose. The overriding lesson not to take things too seriously is quite liberating — if it doesn’t really matter, there’s no point worrying about it! Thanks again.
